Course content
- General Introduction – System Design Analysis:
Become reasonably familar with the process developement from the single fault criterion or the fail-safe design concept and nowadays more focus on safety-critical functions of complex systems. - Achieve an in-depth understanding of the definition and classification of Failure Condition:
- No Safety Effect
- Minor Failure
- Major Failure
- Hazards Failure
- Catastrophic Failure - Achieve an in-depth understanding of the concept of Safety Assessment Methods standard practice defined in CS 25.1309 / AMC 25.1309 by using FMEA/FMECA, Fault Tree, Functional Analysis and the analysis of the Qualitative or Quantitative Probability.
- Applying the knowledge to perform Safety System Assessments for the determination of reliability level required by the CS and for assessing the effects of any other failure conditions or malfunctions and for evaluation of component failures and construction of the maintenance program.
- Understand the relationship between the Certification Maintenance Requirement (CRM) and the Maintenance Review Board (MRB) process in establishing scheduled maintenance tasks.
- Understand the meaning, concept and interface/relation of Airworthiness Limitation Item (ALI), Critical Design Configuration Control Limitations (CDCCL), Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA).
- Achieve a good understanding of the meaning Fault Configuration Method as a structured approach not only to identify single isolated faults but also common cause failures, cascade failures, dormant failures, human factors etc. at the “technical system” level. On the more global landscape for the design activity of the system, it also encompasses: safety training for designers, safety commitment of the design company, safety positions independent from the system design and control of vendors.
- Recognize the need of a Risk Management Concept and understand Risk Assessment as the key element of managing safety.
- Achieve an in-depth understanding of the meaning „Safety Lessons Learned“ to promote Continuous Improvement of Safety throughout the Organisation.
