Fatigue & Damage Tolerance Evaluation of Aircraft Structure
Course content
The Course covers the following topics:
- history and evolution of civil and military fatigue requirements, and the associated guidance material;
- introduction to fatigue mechanism;
- inspection threshold and inspection intervals
- design considerations;
- fatigue properties;
- fatigue strength;
- stress intensity factors;
- fracture mechanics;
- fatigue loads and spectra;
- fatigue damage accumulation;
- NDT and inspection;
- fatigue and failure of joints and structure;
- damage tolerance for repairs and alteration; and
- widespread fatigue damage and limit of validity
- EASA/FAR Part 25 vs. part 23/27/29 requirements.
Note: the course includes practical in-class activities requiring participants to apply calculations to relevant examples to demonstrate their understanding of the presented material.
Course prerequisites
- Students or graduate of mechanical (or similar field) engineering;
- persons experienced in aircraft certification;
- members of a design approval holder;
- airline structural engineers;
- members of a type certificate/STC holder
