Course content
Introduction to MBMs:
- Definition
- Types (voluntary agreements, levies, emissions trading, carbon offsetting)
- Development of ICAO policy
CORSIA:
- ICAO Resolution A39-3
- Implementation phases
- Scope of application incl. routes covered by the scheme and exemptions
- Calculation of offsetting requirements for the different implementation phases
- Monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV)
- Emissions Unit Criteria (EUC)
- Registries
- Current status and next steps
This main section of the course will include practice exercises on certain of the key design features of CORSIA, in particular on defining routes covered by the scheme and the calculation of offsetting requirements. These exercises will enable participants to consolidate the knowledge gained in the relevant part of the course.
Course prerequisites
No previous knowledge of MBMs or CORSIA is required. The course is given in English and will include the opportunity for discussion on issues arising from the content – indeed this is encouraged. Participants should therefore have a good command of the English language and a basic knowledge of civil aviation.
